Happy New Year!

Hello everyone! It is already time for a new school year and I am so excited! For all the new parents (and for those other inquiring minds), I want to tell you a little about myself.

I am Jodi Goodman and I will be teaching a K-1-2 class this year! I was raised in Richfield, NC about an hour from Charlotte. I graduated in 2008 from UNC-Charlotte with Elementary Education and I was very fortunate to find the gem that is Community Charter School for my first year of teaching. I fell in love with CCS and I am so happy to be back this year!

I have had many experiences that have molded my educational philosophies and I am happy to have found a fit with CCS. I strongly believe in Positive Discipline as an effective way to teach children (who am I kidding, grown ups too!) how to appropriately handle situations in a peaceful manner. Much of the elementary classroom is about teaching children appropriate behaviors and how to interact with others in a positive and effective way. Positive Discipline uses mutual respect, communication skils, solution-focused problem solving, cooperation and more to help students be successful members of their classroom community. If you would like to learn more about Positive Discipline, please feel free to ask me or you may want to explore the "About Us" portion of these websites: www.positivediscipline.com or www.positivediscipline.org

I am also excited about the multi-age classroom experiences we have at CCS! There are many academic and social benefits. Children have a wider variety of opportunities to work at their own level. Students who may be advanced have opportunities to work with older students and anyone who may need extra time certainly has that opportunity as well. Students have the unique opportunity to play many social roles in the classroom from being the youngest, the middle, as well as the oldest. Each age group has something to share and to learn from the others. As a teacher, I have the chance to develop a deeper relationship with my students throughout the years I spend with them and children have to experience less transitions.

We're going to have a great year and I can't wait to meet all of you! Feel free to contact me at anytime with any questions or concerns that you have.

  1. Hi, my daughter Izzie will be in your First grade group this year. She is so excited and happy to be here! We just moved from Michigan, and I think CCS is going to be a wonderful place for her!

  2. Hey Miss Jodie, not sure if you will get this or not before school, but I was searching craigslist under free stuff and I came across this, I would go get it myself but I have the flu. Just thought I would let you know! Thought some of this could be of great use at the school.

  3. Ms. Jodi, Izzie is sick, she went to the doctor today and she said it is an allergy and asthma complication, so she put her on steroids and they had to order them. So she will be out on Wednesday 8-26 as well as today's absence. I will send a note in when she returns on Thursday. She is so upset she needs another day to rest! But Happy she will return in time for Drama. See you Thursday!
